Unknown error when emailing documents using webmail with 2-step authentication
Description

NOTE: This error may also appear:  'Error with the address (example@email.com). Unknown error please check windows event log for more details.'

You can amend the settings in each of these services to resolve this error and enable you to email your documents.

When using Gmail

NOTE: Google have made 2-step verification mandatory for Gmail from 1 June 2022. You can find more info on this here. If you have a Google Workspace account, this will become mandatory on 30th September 2024.

As a workaround, you can set up an App password. You then need to apply the password within Email Defaults.

When using AOL

As a workaround, you must generate an app password.

For further advice you should contact your IT administrator or refer to AOL help.


When using Yahoo

As a workaround, you must generate an app password.

For further advice you should contact your IT administrator or refer to Yahoo help.


Using Microsoft Outlook or another Webmail provider

If you don't use Gmail, AOL or yahoo, you should follow the usual troubleshooting steps.
